Painting Your Home? 3 Tips To Make Your Palette Pop

Posted on

Fresh paint on a home can be a welcome addition. In addition to hiding discoloration, scratches, and dings that may have accumulated over the years, exterior house paint is also a great way to make your house more welcoming and visually appealing. Here are three easy tips for selecting the perfect color so that your color palette really pops.

1.    Select a Color that Stands Out  When you drive down your street, what color are most of the houses? Since many builders offer pre-set color palettes to people building homes, you might notice that many of the houses are within the same color family. However, if you want your house to stand out, choosing a different color might be right up your alley.

When you think about which color to choose, think about your favorite colors and what would look great in comparison to the homes around your place. For instance, if most homes on your street are painted white or gray, opting for a dusky blue or a rich red color might really help your house to stand out.

2.    Choose Contrasting Trim Forget about matching your trim perfectly to your home's exterior color. To create a crisp, clean appearance, select a color that contrasts, such as black or white. While black trim looks great on white or beige homes, white trim works well with every other color. When painting trim, make sure that your painting team masks off the area around doors and windows carefully to ensure a clean appearance.

If your home doesn't have a lot of exterior trim, consider asking a general contractor to add some before your painting team works on your home's exterior. In no time, they may be able to create a brighter look for your home by making the trim stand out.

3.    Remember the Color Wheel Another important thing to remember when selecting an exterior color palette for your home is the color wheel. For the greatest visual impact, try to choose colors that are opposite one another on the color wheel, such as orange and blue, purple and yellow, and red and green. Keep in mind that red homes look great against naturally green landscapes home yards offer, so you won't need to paint trim green to enjoy a visually pleasing home exterior.

Make your space even more beautiful by letting professional painters take care of exterior refinishing. Before you break ground on your project, sit down with your painting team to talk about what you want, what paints will be used, and how long the project will take.
